About Thyme
Recorded and released in 1995 About Thyme was the first project that Jacqui, Gerry and Spencer collaborated on. During a quiet period in the musicians' work schedule in 1994 Gerry suggested the idea of writing and arranging together. Meeting once a week the trio demo'ed tracks and prepared for the studio.
Recording took place in January and February of 1995 at Elephant Studios in Wapping (sadly now gone in the 'development' of the area) with the trio being very fortunate in securing Matt Butler as the engineer. Many musician friends came and played or sang on the album and added to the diversity and originality of the music.
Featuring the brilliant playing of the late (but very great) Jerry Underwood About Thyme led to the formation of Jacqui McShee's Pentangle. Although not called a Pentangle album this is very much the blueprint for subsequent albums. The music ranges from new arrangements of traditional songs through jazz, world music and beyond.
Since its release About Thyme has gained critical acclaim worldwide and continues to do so.
